Stress During PregnancyWhat are the basic pregnancy stressors? Listed below are 8 reasons for stress during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is perhaps the most difficult phase of a woman’s life. She undergoes many changes physically, emotionally and mentally. But she has to accept these challenges and pass through all this for a healthy baby. Stress is a major concern for a pregnant woman. Some sort of stress is always there during pregnancy weather it is physical or mental. But prolonged stress is always something unwanted and can have ill effects on the mother as well as on the child. Here are a few very basic and general causes of stress to a pregnant woman, which she should try to eliminate. But these causes may vary from person to person. It is always better to keep stress away in pregnancy. Here are top 8 reasons of stress in pregnancy:

8 Reasons For Stress During Pregnancy

#1 Hormonal changes

Hormones play a vital role in the human growth and development. The hormone levels change during pregnancy. Some of them are secreted by the body to help the growth of the child in the womb. The mood swings are a good example of hormonal changes during pregnancy. Some of the women take this as a subject of tension during pregnancy and this leads to excessive stress. It is the duty of the family members to understand this and take it easy.

#2 Work place related issues

We live in an era in which men and women both work for their earnings. Working in pregnancy is not a big deal these days. But in many cases the women are not able to cope up with the office stress and the deadlines of the work. This also accumulates over a long run and can create problems.

#3 Morning or evening sicknesses

Almost every pregnant lady has morning or evening sickness for a few weeks of pregnancy. Constipation and nausea etc. adds to the stress as the woman feels uneasy. This can be treated as per the advice of the doctor.

#4 Tensions about birth and labor pain

Women who are pregnant for the first time are stressed because they keep on pondering about the labor pain. They think weather they will be able to bear the pain or not? Miscarriage/s in the previous attempts of pregnancy is also one of the main reasons for the stress in many women.

#5 Future planning for the baby

Many women report that they feel tensed about the future of their child. They keep on planning what their child will do, which school the child shall be admitted, etc. and etc. These thoughts may turn out to be negative if taken on a very serious note. This tension takes the form of stress in a long run.

#6 Depressions

Many of the pregnant women are depressed. The reason for their depression can be anything from their medications to the daily routine or their perspective towards life. But this depression can take serious form if not tackled in time properly.

#7 Long lasting stress

A study shows that African –American women in America are stressed out during their pregnancy because they face a lot of racism. That is why the rate of underweight and premature babies is high among this ethnic group. Such type of stress is very difficult to deal with.

#8 Financial problems

Studies reveal that long term financial problems have a deep relation with stress. This also affects the child’s growth in the womb. Such kinds of tensions are often associated with premature and low body weight child deliveries.

Many people say that pregnancy is the time to relax and enjoy. In this period a woman should eat and sleep properly and she should not take any pressure. But the really is a bit different than the fairy tales. Not all women can live in the same environment. Hence, the reasons and results are different for all. But by constant awareness we can make a difference.

Stopping Chronic Stress Can Reduce Dementia

FacebookLinkedInPinterestShare

stopping chronic stressFor many the ruling by the Supreme Court on Obamacare has raised stress levels. However stopping chronic stress can reduce dementia. The reason I bring this up is how you think about things today can lead to you suffering from Alzheimer or dementia later in life and the best defense against not having physical or mental problems as you age is to reduce the stress in your life and honestly that is an inside job.

There was a recent article in Forbes that speaks to the status quo.

Stopping Chronic Stress Can Reduce Dementia

Here’s a little bit about what we already know about the stress-dementia connection. A couple of years ago, one study reported that women who had been through significant stressors in mid-life had a significantly (65%) greater risk of developing dementia later on. The theory is that stressful events can trigger a cascade of reactions involving the stress hormones (glucocorticoids) and eventually leading to atrophy in the brain’s hippocampus – the region that is the seat of memory, and known to be most affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Earlier work had pointed to the fact that indeed in mice, the stress hormones are linked to higher levels of amyloid precursor protein (APP) and tau protein, which is seen in Alzheimer’s and in other forms of dementia. Since humans with Alzheimer’s are known to have higher levels of the stress hormones, the authors suggest that the hormones are not a consequence of the disease, but, perhaps, a cause.

And earlier this year, a study found that when mice are subjected to stress over a period of time, they have more phosphorylated tau protein deposits in their brains (see this Scientific American blog for a nice synopsis). Interestingly, the study also found that if a compound is given which blocks a step in the stress cascade, the same brain changes do not occur, which could suggest a future drug target.

Finally, the other, more famous culprit in Alzheimer’s disease, amyloid-beta plaques (or “brain gunk”) have been shown to accumulate following increased brain cell activity. Specifically, there’s evidence that people who have more activity in their default mode networks (which is linked to depression, mind-wandering, and general unhappy thoughts, among others) may have increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease precisely because of this connection. This suggests, somewhat alarmingly, that even our thoughts and moods may affect our risk for dementia.

Take The Stress Out of Diabetes

FacebookLinkedInPinterestShare

Diabetes Management is on the rise and as our population ages it shows no sings of stopping so it is valuable to learn how to take the stress out of diabetes. Wikipedia defines diabetes as…

Diabetes mellitus, often simply referred to as diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger).

The three main types of diabetes mellitus (DM) are:

  • Type 1 DM results from the body’s failure to produce insulin, and presently requires the person to inject insulin. (Also referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or “juvenile” diabetes)
  • Type 2 DM results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. (Formerly referred to as noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or “adult-onset” diabetes)
  • Gestational diabetes is when pregnant women, who have never had diabetes before, have a high blood glucose level during pregnancy. It may precede development of type 2 DM.

Take The Stress Out of Diabetes

A recent article in New Port Richey Patch offers some useful advice…

  • Obtain and follow a diabetes meal plan from your health practitioner. This should involve eating foods with little salt or fat, eating a hearty amount of fiber and keeping meat and poultry portions at less than 3 ounces.
  • Get routine care a minimum of two times a year to address any problems.
  • Monitor your blood glucose level by testing it at least once a day.
  • Exercise for 45-60 minutes a minimum of five days a week. Everything from a walk to an exercise class will benefit you.
  •  Find ways to manage your stress and utilize mental health resources. Stress often contributes to a higher blood glucose level so finding ways to de-stress, like engaging in exercise or pet therapy, is particularly important for individuals with diabetes.

Stress Away For Your Business

FacebookLinkedInPinterestShare

stress away for your businessDid you hear about the new product Stress Away for your business? Well really it isn’t a product just some simple things you can do to reduce the tension and pressure that comes from business. This is from an article in The Star in their business section about reducing stress in a start up business and yet these apply whether you are starting a business, already have a business or work for someone else in a business.

Stress Away For Your Business

1) Control what you can control. You can’t just decide when your business will turn a profit, but stress can be managed through the choices you make. This includes everything from lifestyle habits and behaviour to ways of thinking, including expectations and whether you indulge in negative self-talk. Posen says most stress comes from the meaning we give to events rather than the events themselves (imagine thinking people are angry because they haven’t replied to emails rather than assuming they’re busy).
2) Avoid crazy hours. Jeff Mann seems like the poster boy for launching businesses. The 31-year-old is already working on his second business after opening a successful design agency at age 26, and recently led a workshop for the Toronto Business Development Centre on time and stress management. But, he says, working 70 to 80 hours a week launching the first venture had him neglecting his health.
“Lots of junk food by the computer, bags of chips, takeout. I gained 15 pounds. And it reflects poorly,” he says. “You don’t want this image going to your potential customers.”
Posen says he often starts by having patients cut hours. He says they’ll probably get more done if they work less anyway.
“Not only does the research show that, but in over 25 years, I’ve never had a patient tell me they couldn’t keep up with their work in fewer hours—if they take better care of themselves,” he says.
3) Get your z’s. Adequate sleep—seven and a half to nine hours for most adults—is essential to managing stress. Chronic sleep deprivation creates higher levels of cortisol (the main hormone in stress), compromises mental function and mood, and affects immune systems.
“Most of the symptoms of sleep deprivation are symptoms of stress,” says Posen.
4) Cut back on caffeine. Caffeine stimulates the release of adrenaline and cortisol, and suppresses a natural relaxant in the brain called adenosine.
“Entrepreneurs may think caffeine is helping, but it’s not only jazzing up their bodies. It’s also masking other symptoms they should be aware of,” says Posen.
Caffeine also stays in the body for six to ten hours, and can prevent deep sleep. But cutting it completely often causes side effects, so to avoid withdrawal headaches, trim intake back gradually.
5) Take five. Mann suggests taking breaks, such as weekly date nights, to prevent business from becoming all consuming. Dr. Posen recommends daily exercise, which helps drain excess stress energy, and says leisure time during the week, whether catching a game with friends, talking a walk, or just watching TV, is a savvy investment.

Anxiety Attacks One In Eight Kids

FacebookLinkedInPinterestShare

anxiety attacks on in eight kidsIt doesn’t have to be this way but anxiety attacks one in eight kids. According to Wikipediait is defined as  a psychological and physiological state characterized by somatic, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral components. It is the displeasing feeling of fear and concern. It can create feelings of fear, worry, uneasiness, and dread. While Wikipedia goes on to say it  is considered to be a normal reaction to a stressor the Huffington Post reported that the Anxiety Disorders Association of America says that one in eight kids suffer from anxiety disorders.

Anxiety Attacks One In Eight Kids

Without obvious signs, like sweating, shaking or blushing, anxiety is difficult to detect. The good news is that anxiety isn’t always totally invisible. A teacher can learn to recognize the more elusive behavior signs — increased inflexibility, over-reactivity, emotional intensity, and impulsivity. Many anxious students try to escape or avoid something through behavior, for instance going to the nurse to avoid a math quiz or acting up to be kicked out of chorus. Just as with a child who has oppositional behavior disorder, reactions may be tantrums, constant arguments or angry and disruptive acting-out. The form the behavior takes isn’t particularly distinctive — the only difference between oppositional and anxiety-related behavior is the underlying cause.

Educating teachers about anxiety and the behavioral signs they may see in the classroom makes this invisible disability easier to detect and understand. Mr. Lee learned to expect the unexpected while gaining an understanding of anxiety. The trained teacher is on the way to intervening effectively, turning the tide for the student’s academic and behavioral performance.

Truthfully, I do not know where the Anxiety Disorders Association of America got the number of one in eight kids suffer from anxiety disorders as there was no specific study or even any statistics reported in the Huffington Post. The thing that draws my attention is what are the other seven kids doing so that they don’t suffer from anxiety disorders even though they have the same stressors as the one in eight child does.

If the coping skills of the seven were studied and taught to the eighth child then the number of anxiety disorders would diminish.

And that is just one possible solution. Another is to use any of the new cutting edge non-evasive techniques and technologies that help the individual remove the charge of of negative feelings. Many of them are free tools that remove anxiety and stress and stop anxiety attacks. We could teach all children the tools and really bring down the numbers.

If you feel it is not a good thing that anxiety attacks one in eight kids please share and like this with your friends and others on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Stress Causes Infants To Suffer Before Birth

FacebookLinkedInPinterestShare

Stress causes Infants to sufferEveryone knows that stress is a pain in the you know what but you may not be aware that stress causes infants to suffer before birth. When pregnant mothers have to much stress or do not learn ways to eliminate stress everyone has heard that what effects the mother effects the baby. Well it effect the unborn infantso much that it may cause an iron deficiency. Without iron not enough oxygen is carried all the different part of the body.

The consequence of not enough oxygen shows up in shortness of breath, lack of energy, not enough oxygen has a huge effect on brain development and mental functioning.

Stress Causes Infants To Suffer Before Birth

A study was done at Ashkelon Academic College and it was reported at cbs42.com Hollywood…

The study recruited pregnant women who were about to give birth at the Barzilai Medical Center. The first group lived in an area where there are more than 600 rocket attacks (“Oferet Yetzuka” operation) during their first trimester. The controlled group lived in the same area, but became pregnant three to four months after the rockets attacked. Eligible women who were healthy interviewed one or two days after delivery about their background and health during pregnancy. Cord blood was also collected from newborns, and serum ferritin, iron, were measured.

Sixty-three babies whose mothers were in the stress group had significantly lower cord-blood ferritin concentrations than the 77 infants in the control group.

“Our findings indicate that infants whose mothers were stressed during pregnancy are a previously unrecognized risk group for iron deficiency. Pregnant women should be aware that their health, nutrition, stress level and state of mind will affect their baby’s health and well-being,” Dr. Rinat Armony-Sivan, Ph.D., director of the psychology research laboratory at Ashkelon Academic College, was quoted as saying.

From this writers point of view a lot of these physical problems and the resulting emotional problems can be avoided. Stress does not have to be a problem for either the mother or the unborn infant and the probabilities of iron deficiencies need not even be an issue. There are actually free stress relief tools available that many have said the only time they don’t work is when you don’t use them.

Stress: Anti-Aging Stop The Bullying

FacebookLinkedInPinterestShare

stress: anti-aging stop bullyingWhat does aging and violence have in common? According to a new study on stress if you want anti-aging stop the bullying. Most people don’t know that stress actually causes aging on the cellular level. Fox News reported…

Stress: Anti-Aging Stop The Bullying

Children exposed to multiple instances of violence age faster on a cellular level than children without violent experiences, a new study finds.

Although childhood stress has long been linked with later disease risk and health problems, the study is the first to show accelerated biological aging in childhood as a result of stress.

“Those kids are ‘older’ than they are supposed to be,” said study leader Idan Shalev, a postdoctoral researcher at Duke University. If the cellular aging isn’t reversed, Shalev told LiveScience, the children would likely be at risk for premature death.

Violence and stress

To gauge biological aging, Shalev and his colleagues examined a portion of DNA called telomeres. These sequences cap the ends of our chromosomes (packets of DNA), but they get shorter with every cell division, acting as a sort of molecular “clock” that signals wear-and-tear on DNA.

Several studies have found that adults who experienced violence as children tend to have shorter telomeres than those with peaceful childhoods. But those studies couldn’t determine whether the telomeres had been shortened because of childhood stress or because of later adult health problems stemming from that stress, Shalev said.

To find out which was the case, he and his colleagues began a study that looked not backward, but ahead. Using a sample of 236 children from a British sample born between 1994 and 1995, the researchers took DNA samples by swabbing the children’s cheeks and then measured the length of each child’s telomeres at age 5 and age 10.

Click here to read more  about stress and premature aging

Here are my thoughts… while many people get up in arms about violence and bullying and what should or shouldn’t be done about it. How it isn’t right and how it shouldn’t be happening. Everyone knows that attempting to make someone do something or stop something (i.e. violence/bullying) is not all that effective. Why not teach both victims of violence and those that perpetrate violence and bullying how to handle stress effectively.

It makes sense to deal with the source rather than the symptom doesn’t it? Wouldn’t that address all the concerns of stress anti-aging and bullying?

Chronic Stress Hurts Seniors

FacebookLinkedInPinterestShare

Chronic Stress Huts SeniorsWith all the holistic health tools out today that can pretty much eliminate stress it is sad that we have to report things like how chronic stress hurts seniors. And the interesting thing is what are some of the results of chronic stress on seniors.

John Phillip  wrote over at NaturalNews.com

Chronic Stress Hurts Seniors

Researchers from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine have published the result of a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, explaining the mechanism behind continual exposure to stressors so common in our rapid-paced lifestyle, and the unnatural accumulation of insoluble tau protein aggregates in brain tissue. They explain that neurofibrillary tangles are one of the physical hallmark signs of Alzheimer’s disease, and have been shown to contribute to disease progression in people under chronic stress conditions during the course of past studies.

Chronic stress is positively linked to physical brain changes leading to Alzheimer’s, dementia

The study team, using a mouse-based model, noted”we found that repeated episodes of emotional stress, which has been demonstrated to be comparable to what humans might experience in ordinary life, resulted in the phosphorylation and altered solubility of tau proteins in neurons… these events are critical in the development of NFT pathology in Alzheimer’s disease.”Researchers determined that the effect was most pronounced in the hippocampus of the brain, an area linked to the formation, organization and storage of memories.

Chronic stress continually stimulates and activates stress pathways in the brain that lead to pathological alteration of stress circuitry in the brain. The researchers describe chronic stress as too much of a good thing gone bad. Lead study author, Dr. Robert Rissman commented on their findings”As people age, perhaps their neuronal circuits do too, becoming less robust and perhaps less capable of completely rebounding from the effects of stress.”

Here is a novel idea why not use any of the non-evasive stress relief tools with seniors who have Alzheimer’s or dementia? I bet it would relieve (in fact I know it does) the chronic stress and its residue held in the seniors energy system and there is a good chance that the dementia and Alzheimer’s might be arrested and in some cases reversed. And many of the chronic stress relief tools are free.
